Neuro-ophthalmology and Imaging – A Guide – Sunday 8th June 16:30 – 17:45
The eyes are a window to the brain, as many central nervous system disorders manifest through visual signs or symptoms. It is therefore crucial for ophthalmologists to recognize these signs and understand the intricate relationship between the brain and the eyes. Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in neuro-ophthalmology, but how well do we truly know how to select the appropriate modality and interpret the results? This session on imaging in neuro-ophthalmology offers practical insights, complementing the broader array of neuro-ophthalmological topics featured at SOE 2025. Equip yourself with the knowledge to enhance your understanding of this fascinating field and its diagnostic tools.

Sustainability and Global Ophthalmology – Monday 9th June 16:30 – 18:00
Whilst our core mission as healthcare professionals is to improve public health, this mission is paradoxically threatened by our global impact on the climate crisis, with the healthcare sector amongst the largest greenhouse gas polluters globally. Climate change, environmental strains and an ever-growing demand is impacting and influencing our working practices in an unprecedented manner. There has never been a more critical time to raise awareness on the importance of decarbonising our own clinical and surgical footprint, whilst maintaining the highs standards we have set. The YO lounge session on sustainability aims to promote and disseminate guidance on the actions ophthalmologists can take to support other members of the wider ophthalmic in delivering and leading projects sustainably within the workplace. In 2022, the Young Ophthalmologists for Sustainability (YOFS) was founded, highlighting further the trans-generational impact the climate crisis can have and the desire to work sustainably for the future. Join us in this year’s YO lounge to listen to thought provoking talks on how we too can help fight against this climate crisis and make healthcare delivery better and greener.”
